The Montecastillo Golf Club is a beautiful, reasonably undulated, golf course with artistically placed lakes and spectacular elevated tee boxes surrounded by rolling hills. A challenging layout, although with up to five tee positions on each hole, it is also possible for high handicappers to enjoy their round. The fairways are wide and appear very inviting. However, there are some cleverly-positioned bunkers so you need to exercise caution.
The greens are very large and fast, while some of the tees are elevated. Water hazards affect half a dozen of the holes. As this is a long course, buggies are recommended. The first few holes are especially long, but as you continue around the course, water comes into play several times and accuracy becomes more important.
Ranked as the 53rd best golf course in the world by the respected Golf World magazine, Montecastillo has hosted several prestigious tournaments, including the Turespaña Masters Open in 1994 and 1996. For five consecutive years it was also the venue for the Volvo Masters, before the competition reverted back to another top course in Andalucia, Valderrama, in 2002.
Buggy compulsory until 11:00.
